Program Overview

Open to students with a strong master’s level background in Physics. Exceptional students with a B.Tech/BE degree are also eligible. During the first year, students complete mandatory courses and must clear a comprehensive examination.

Selection Process

Admission is through a written test and interview conducted by the department. Applicants must have qualified in at least one of GATE/JEST/NET. When vacancies are limited, a list of faculty with open positions is shared with selected students. On joining, students choose guides from this list.

Structure of the Program

Students with a Master’s degree: minimum of 2 core courses and 2 electives. Students entering directly after BE/B.Tech: minimum of 10 courses (2 core, 2 thesis related special topics, and 6 electives). In all cases, a comprehensive viva is conducted at the end of the first year.
