It has been seen that complex phenomena observed in non-Newtonian sheared fluid can be explained by a simple model like the 1-d classical XY modelin the presence of external shear and noise [1]. We have studied this model in the absence of external noise, both in the presence and absence of shear, using the Velocity Verlet algorithm. The model shows rich spatio-temporal behaviour, such as spatio-temporal intermittency, banded structure, phase separation and shared phases, at distinct values of shear and dissipation parameters. The observed behaviour is discussed, and further studies outlined.
