Cosmology and fundamental physics using QSO absorption lines

Abstract :

Absorption lines seen in the spectra of high-z quasi-stellar objects (QSOs) allow one to probe the cosmology, galaxy formation and its evolution. In addition one will be able to place stringent constraints on the variations of fundamental constants. In this talk the author will review the present status of the field and summarize future programmes with Thirty-Metre Telescope (TMT).

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:

Prof. Raghunathan Srianand received his Ph.D from Utkal University, Bhubaneswar. He joined IUCAA as a postdoctoral fellow in 1995 and become faculty in 1996. His research interests include, the physics of active galactic nuclei (AGNs), intergalactic medium, physical cosmology and structure formation.
