Some Vignettes In Elementary Mathematical Physics

ABSTRACT :

We shall consider three specific instances in elementary mathematical physics to show how they lead to, and serve as simple illustrations of, more advanced topics. The examples chosen are: (i) an oscillator algebra and the squeezed vacuum state, (ii) Catalan numbers and a random walk, and (iii) the Laplacian operator and dimensional regularization.
