Topical Events Organized by IAGRG

The year 2005 was celebrated as the Year of Physics commemorating the Annus Mirabilis (1905)
in which Einstein published revolutionary papers on the light quanta, special theory of relativity and Brownian motion. On this occasion IAGRG organized Essay competitions.

There were two competitions: one for under-graduate and graduate students and one for young researchers below the age of 35. The response for the latter was not very good (only four were received) and none were found suitable for an award. The response for the former however was tremendous! About a 100 essays were received. The topic was Einstein's Contributions to Relativity.

The winners were:

First Prize (Rs 5000/-):

Ms Soumini Chowdhury, second year M. Sc. student, Jadavpur university, Kolkata;

Second Prize (Rs 3000/-):

Mr Radhakanta Dash, second year M. Sc. student, Vanivihar, Utkal University, Bhubaneshwar.
