TITLE OF THE PROJECT
DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF SCIENCE ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES IN CBSE SCHOOLS TO DEVELOP ANALYTICAL PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS AMONG SCHOOL CHILDREN FROM CLASSES 6 TO 12 |
DESCRIPTION:
It is a common knowledge that our school children are subjected to enormous stress by way of preparing for competitive examinations at several stages during their schooling, like the national and international Olympiads, talent search examinations, entrance examinations to professional institutes at the end of their schooling, etc. Invariably, to prepare for such examinations they have to sacrifice their play and other extra-curricular activities at home and at school to attend to special coaching institutes and training programs outside their school hours. The normal school education is at present not tuned to help them out in the skills necessary to face such national or international level competitions.
How can anyone justify that after 12 years of intensive schooling a child is expected to undergo a special coaching in parallel for at least three years, of course at a high cost to their parents , to face national level competitive examinations in their very subjects of study, namely, mathematics, physics, and chemistry. This brings out very clearly the deep routed malady in our present system of education and examination. The problem lies not in our syllabus but more in the method of teaching and evaluation. Unless we make our classroom teaching “activity based” and interactive where the teacher only facilitates interactions among peers and moderates the discussions after every scientifically generated activity he/she performs or lets a group of children perform, we cannot escape the present state of affairs. It is precisely with this motivation to bring about a change for the better in our system of education that this project is being executed.
