Thanks to mathematical developments, the subject of general relativity has undergone a silent revolution in the last decade. Widely held beliefs about stability of black holes and cosmic censorship are now proven to be wrong. One such example is cosmic censorship in BTZ. In a recent paper, Dias, Reall, and Santos found subtle mistakes in earlier analyses, e.g., hep-th/0405048, and showed that cosmic censorship is badly violated in BTZ black hole even for scalar fields. I will present a discussion on their results: arXiv:1906.08265.
