The increase in energy consumption along with the growing demand for zero emission sources of energy has increased the need for clean and renewable energy resources which is an intermittent energy resource. Hence, to provide continuous power to the grid, large scale electrochemical energy storage systems (EES) are essential. The rechargeable battery can be used as a large scale energy storage system. In this talk, drawbacks of the existing lithium ion battery and how lithium sulfur [1], sodium ion [2] and aluminium ion battery [3] can be used as an alternative batteries will be discussed.
