Examination Details	The ONLINE WRITTEN TEST will be held on 18th April 2026(Saturday) at 05:30 PM. The duration of the online written test would be 90 minutes (05:30 PM to 07:00 PM). The ONLINE INTERVIEW is scheduled to start on 02nd May 2026 (Saturday) from 09:00 AM onwards and may extend upto 03rd May 2026 (Sunday). You can attend both these ONLINE examinations from your home or from a place where the internet connection is good.
GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
Criteria for initial shortlisting for July–Nov 2026	Valid GATE score (issued either in 2024 or 2025 or 2026) as per the category. Valid NET (CSIR–JRF/ UGC–JRF only) Valid JEST (Qualified in 2025 and 2026 only) Valid provisional offer letter issued by DST for the award of INSPIRE fellowship for PhD programme CFTI candidates who have completed M.Sc., Integrated M.Sc., Dual degree B.S–M.S., B.Tech., with CGPA 8.0 and above. M.Tech. from CFTIs with CGPA 6.5 and above.
Selection Procedure	Selection process as follows: Short Listing of the Candidates for the ONLINE Written Test based on their academic criteria Short Listing of the Candidates for the ONLINE Interview based on their Written Test performance. Final Selection based on the Combined performance in both ONLINE Written Test and Interview.
Notification	The notification for the admission to the Ph.D. program (July-Nov 2026 session) in the Department of Physics can be accessed at IITM Research Admission Portal (https://research.iitm.ac.in).
