The advent of vegetable base oils in the as promising lubricant alternatives in the tribological applications space has fueled the research for making these biodegradable oils as good as their mineral oil counterpart. Chemical modification of the vegetable base oils by addition of TiO2/g-C3N4 nanocomposite has been studied in this work. The nano-additive preparation was done by a two-step synthesis route. The combined effects of the nano-composite dispersion in a vegetable base oil has led to the formation proper tribofilm which can reduce the coefficient of friction and wear between two contacting steel surfaces with 23 % and 17 % respectively. Here all tribological measurements was done using four ball tester according to ASTM standard D5183. This work serves to highlight the promising role of nano-additives in improving the vegetable base oil properties, thus making their commercialization economical.
