Controlling Quantum Systems

  • 2022-10-26
  • Prof. Barry Sanders, University of Calgary, Canada

I discuss the nature of control with feedback, independent of whether a controlled system is quantum or classical, and how to optimize the control policy, including greedy vs global methods and the role of machine learning. Then I discuss examples of how we use these methods for electromagnetic-pulse design for high-fidelity two-qubit gates for ions and for neutral atoms.

Barry Sanders is a professor at the University of Calgary and Scientific Director of Quantum City, a part-time distinguished chair professor at the University of Science and Technology of China, a Visiting Advanced Joint Research professor at the Raman Research Institute in India, a Scientist of the Creative Destruction Lab, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, the Optical Society of America, the American Physical Society and the Institute of Physics (UK).
